My favourite (Cheap) Kitchen gadget

Don't think we have discussed this before (even at the other place)

For starters - my favourite is my plastic dough scraper bought from Bakery Bits for about £2.50. Aside from cutting dough to make rolls etc it is the ideal tool for picking up pieces from flat surfaces (chopped onions etc) and for cleaning surfaces and the inside of bigger bowls and tins.

Vegetable steamer basket - this one is £2.80, but even the expensive ones are only about eight quid. A one-saucepan solution for keeping steamed carrots and green beans, etc, separate from the spuds that I'm boiling in the bottom half of the pan.

A further plus is that when it's folded up it looks like a flying saucer's just landed in the kitchen. Really quite cool.

A small knife with an olive wood handle I bought in Portugal from a street market about 20 years ago. It came with its own little sharpening stone and Mrs RS will not use anything else for peeling veg. It cost about 6 euros ( it may even have been escudos!)

I won't estimate how many times we've used it over the years, but it's still as good as new and delivers fantastic fluffy rice every time.

Close second would be our Colourworks 1.4 L Collapsible Strainer (£5.62) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003WOQQAO

I also like the silicone spatula's you can get fairly cheaply nowadays. We tend to buy the Le Creuset range, but there's lots to choose from and they're all very similar.

I fear the most honest answer has to be the most boring. My kettle. Just under a tenner in 1998.

A few other candidates could be the hand blender, that replaced the much bigger blender thingey, and is so much easier to manage and store. Or the simple, universal grater. Or the sleeve I keep in the freezer and use to chill a bottle rapidly. Or, most simple of all, the small, sharp knives.

A proper potato ricer, mashed potato is a breeze. No more potato masher in this household

A lemon/lime squeezer, green for lime, yellow for lemon. Just effortless and produce more juice than any other cheap gadget.
