There're great, aren't they? The trouble is, when I made regular use of mine, the pounds piled on! So it is little used these days. Such a shame. David Cameron has one and look where it got him!!

We only have a cheap one, but it doesn't matter because it only really gets used to mix dough for pizzas

We're onto our third breadmaker now. The first one was a Zojirushi (Japanese) and the last two have been Panasonics (strangely also Japanese. Where's the Dyson model?) All three have been used at least once a week and I couldn't fault any of them. The secret we've found in bread making is the choice of bread and, of course, good yeast. We use multigrain flour and olive oil instead of butter and it turns out very tasty loaves without fail. 8-)

I'm looking forward to Dyson releasing a stylish, but uncomfortably noisy breadmaker that incorporates a cyclone fan, and which costs about five times as much as the alternatives...

If Panasonic could produce a breadmaker that also cleans your floors they would rule the world.

Just a silly thought.

Nothing to beat the Panasonic but you have to eat it all immediately as it doesn't keep , at least that's my excuse .

Hello Meatyfool

Yes I have got one, a Pana SD 2501. I have had it for a couple of years, use it between 1/2 times a week, never had any probs with it. (prob break down tomorrow now I said that) I bought it because a friend had a Pana, older model, and it had been trouble free, and still is. Have just used it for bread, none of the other functions. Have never had any other so cannot compare or contrast. Cannot say more than that.

Best Wishes Jn

We have had ours for 14 years, it gets used at least thrice a week. I have only had to replace a washer in the paddle attachement and to clean it out once, easy peasy.

had panasonic sd254 7 years used twice weekly - no problems.

recipe/method

sachet yeast
1tsp salt
2tsp sugar
fill with strong wholemeal flour to top of paddle - saves weighing it .
2tbs olive oil - no mixing of fat to do
water - fill supplied container plus a bit more .

this takes about 10 mins .

usually left overnight .

:D

You should find that the sandwich loaf , being denser, keeps a lot better. I use a mix of the wholemeal and white, so it is
270g wholemeal
130g white
320g water
+ the usual stuff

But I've been lazy recently, and just been buying pitta. It's pretty cheap and toasts (lightly) very nicely, then gets given all manner of tasty fillings. Most importantly it is a natural product with simple ingredients. Unlike most shop bought bread made with the Chorleywood process which is full of distintly iffy things (if you were being kind, you could call them ingredients). I think MNCP has commented along these lines before.

Stylish, as in livid purple and yellow with clear plastic bits that break off. And six tap-washable filters. Maybe it'll even make a phone call to your mobile when it reaches the end of its cycle?

Anyone got a Panasonic?

Funnily enough, I was talking about breadmakers on the other site, so this gives me a chance to repeat myself.

I've got a Panasonic SD2500 which is seeing less use at present as current fun thing is a slow cooker which has turned out to be a great buy.

I have found that shop bought budget bottled water results in a better loaf than tap water - Sainsbury table water cost 20p for two litres and is filtered rather than being spring water.

I also use an electronic scale with the bread pan on top to measure ingredients almost to the gram.

Well thanks to a similar thread years ago we bought a Panny and use it twice a week at least. OH also insisted in purchasing an electric slicing machine which cuts through newly baked bread with ease. We feeze enough for sandwiches so we don't have any waste.

Long live the Panny

...and I just bought an SD-2511WXC (which can add ingredients part way through the bake, and make jam!) for £99 from ao, with a bit of cashback through Quidco.

My wife has just had her Christmas wishes answered!
