Perhaps we should all remember the strapline of TMF. To educate, amuse and enrich. I'd like to think that philosophy is carried on here.

Surely even on a mundane dividend thread there is a little room for amusement?

But maybe the best option here and now is for a line to be drawn under this thread?

Yes. The initial two replies that caused offence did include a smiley icon. I don't see what more people can do. Apart from loosen up a fraction.

Perhaps there could be a thread just for small and obvious info tidbits "FX rate conversions and other bleeding obvious small matters"?

This would also keep the number of threads more manageable.

I was not aware that HYP was proposed as a method of pot building for a young investor - although it is of course one way.

HYP is about investing a pot, and taking the income, as a method of financing retirement - at least that is what I use it for. It certainly seems very effective v annuities, but I am sure there are other income strategies (Eg IT's), that might be effective also.

About the same as the exchange rate used to pay for the oil that makes our diesel/petrol? It's swings and roundabouts...
