The "Exploit attempt" must be triggered by TLF BBCode editing tags, AFAICS.

I have identified the cause of the "Exploit attempt". it is.... this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_ ... ectiveness

Or rather it isn't, it's the above when enclosed in the usual default TLF BBCode URL delimiters '[url]' and '[/url]'.

Except here it is, NOT causing an "Exploit attempt" : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccine#Effectiveness

By the cringe...

Check!

In my case because it appears TAB no longer works to change fields at logon page...

What will Judge Dredd/Robocop demand of us next? :(

Oops! Do not under any circumstances put that cloudproxy site directly into your browser. I did - ALL HELL BROKE OUT.

I've never seen anything like it (Audio warnings, Flashing warnings, Pop all over the place warnings, "Do not switch off your PC" warnings, "Windows Defender" warnings, "Microsoft" Warnings, "Trojan detected" warnings, "Your PC has been disabled" warnings...)

I am mindful it could all be some sort of elaborate, fake "Do Not Enter Here!" trick. However...

Doesn't for me. If I stick cloudproxy10153.securi.net into my browser it takes me to http://ww12.securi.net/ which looks like a parked domain to me. Not only no hell but not a single warning of any kind.

Well, that's 'interesting'. But what does it 'mean'? I have not the slightest idea. (Could it have been a one off 'prank', on a slow working day?)

But then, I have really got no idea why Judge Dredd stops me posting some of my posts on TLF while allowing me to post other of my posts on TLF...

This, at least, now seems to be (partly) explained: viewtopic.php?p=610400#p610400

its a free world where your own choice should not be impeded

Indeed it is a free world ... and a free site. But it isn't free to run. We rely on ad revenue and voluntary subs to run the site, which means we are a little beholden to Google's policies as are many other sites.

We also have a donations button and, in return for a donation of £20 or more, we remove ads more directly. That must be still working because, as an Admin, I am not seeing ads. Donations link is here if you want to try that route app.php/donate

Shame though because according to my read, pje is the most prolific contributor to TLF, at 7.42 posts per day, ahead of Dod (7.38 per day) and me (7.18 per day)

Not that quantity correlates to quality of course, but still.

On another note, I am no longer seeing ads (have not donated). That does not bother me, although some of the ads are quite amusing. But if that impacts the revenue to TLF then is that a problem?

PS: I have had none of the issues that others are reporting. Only TLF being unavailable on Sunday into Monday.

Pje may be the most prolific poster at this time, but you, sir, hold the record for the most posts of all, 17824 as I write.

Pje is at 6042 but will eventually overhaul you if his posting rate remains higher than yours.

But Dod will catch you first.

Quality is subjective of course, as I noted earlier. But I imagine that TLF values its most active and energetic contributors, especially those who contribute on investment topics.

As such I hope that pje returns and I feel sure that you do too.

it is SO over the top
they even cover and hide some content. Incredible

As over the top as claiming 40 years of internet use? ;)
- but yeah the whole "ads" thing is really dragging the utility of the intertubes down!!
They seem to be like resistant strains of bacteria where they quickly pop up worse once we've got a handle on how to handle them - and then we need to find something else to rub on the browser!

-sd
(only on intertubes since superJanet via mosaic on NeXT circa 92)

PS: I hope things are going as well as they can Paul

OK 38 then
back then, hardly any adverts
now on here they are top, bottom, left and right
barely enough space for content

Crikey you're making me feel old! :D

If it helps - I've not got any ad's on screen after paying my subs here even while (after the last kerfuffle) the site is whilelisted in both adblock plus and "stands"

My personal pet grievance with "ads" in general on the intertubes is that they normally show me stuff I've just bought
- "oh you've bought a starter motor for a mower here are a selection of other starter mowers"!
which it just headbanger nonsense

works for the guitar stuff though :) you can always have more of that
