Of course they are, that's how credit cards work.

Curious thing is Santander has given me a credit limit of almost 4 times what Amazon gave me (and I was happy enough with the latter).

There's a £3 monthly fee for the Santander card though, isn't there?

Then I may do the same, thanks. I closed my HSBC Mastercard account a couple of years ago because I had a Visa credit card with Nationwide where I bank and it was just one more account I didn't need except for the odd rare occasion. I wouldn't need one now were it not for Amazon requesting it. I suppose I could just hold off and see if they resolve their differences or just go with the debit card option. I'm not sure I really need the section 75 protection anyway, I never have before. Even as I write that I'm thinking, I'm going to need it now, you watch.

Another factor when choosing a credit card is what credit limit they will give you. I have found these vary a lot, and some cards give limits that are so low that they make using the card difficult.

For example HSBC gave me a lousy £1,500 limit. Particularly if you are travelling it is not hard to run up such an amount in a few days, and then you are stuck. At least HSBC sends me a text when I have used 90% of my limit, but it is still annoying.

The funny thing is that I have "Premier" status with HSBC, for what that is worth. And I have £80,000 on deposit with them. But even so it was like pulling teeth to get them to increase the limit to £3,000 earlier this year, which is still inadequate.

On the other hand Lloyds gave me a £10,000 limit right off the bat and I don't even have a banking relationship with them.

I have no such problems with my Amex card however, and I have charged up to £40,000 on that within a billing cycle without a problem.

If you do go for the same card then make sure you do it via MSE as that's the way you get the £40 Amazon voucher (or, I gather, one of the other comparison sites too). You don't get it if you apply to Santander direct. Oh, and I see it "Ends Thu".

I don't believe you have to transfer any balance in, and yes, them sending you a link 30 days later is how I understand it. All I've had so far is a flurry of emails from Santander, with T&Cs, data protection, key facts, etc documents attached, and one saying my card is on it's way, for which I'm still waiting....

Aha!

The "card" was already credited and all I had to do was buy something and the balance was updated.

Mind you, I havent a c;lue how to use the balance on the gift card without removing any cr5edit cards in the wallet cos my initial attempts debited my credit card without giving me an option to choose to use the gift card balance!

At various times during the checkout process there's a "Change" next to the payment options which you can use to, well, change the payment options! ;)

My Gift Card account is set as default to be automatically used as payment/part payment for all purchases and my Amazon Platinum is debited with any shortfall.

So, now that Amazon and New Day are parting company I need another Master Card based credit card as backup to my Nationwide Visa card as I don't want to continue with the renamed New Day 'Pulse' card. The card will mainly be used for Internet shopping so one with some form of reward would be nice.

I'm looking for a fee free card that has a good reputation for customer service. I don't need a massive credit limit either. Any advice please?

As a matter of interest, why not?

Their measly 0.25% cash back offer doesn't thrill me ;).

Did the Amazon one have any cashback? I can't say I'd noticed!

? Well I've not received any, and I can't find anything about cashback or similar either in their Ts&Cs or in their FAQ. :?

Is it only for Prime Members or something?
