PCB? Far too hi-tech. Can't beat point-to-point wiring for repairability.
A ham radio receiver I built in the late 60's using....... valves!

ooh I like that!
I got my licence in about 1983 (G1***) so it was all transistors, apart from PAs

Didn't like transistors, you don't get the fear of mucking about with 300v dc

I like being able to build stuff that'll run off a 9V battery (or a nice friendly 13.8V power supply)
Sadly, I've not got my soldering iron out for many a year (other than to repair stuff), due to moving around for work.
When I finally get my own place I'm going to set up a proper radio shack again - voice modes only, I'm not a fan of the 'radio bits as computer peripherals' trend

The first television I ever worked on in the early 1960's was a Sobell 192 (type: sobell 192 television into a search for images). Not a transistor or PCB in sight. Mains droppers, bias capacitors + resistors on cathodes, Anode load resistors screen grid and grid leak resistors. Turret tuners. Valve types such as: EY 86, PCC 89. PCF 86, PY 81, PL 81, EF 80. Lots of components that could be tracked down and changed if they caused a fault.

The most I ever built was a guitar amplifier. It had 2 x EL 84 in a push-pull arrangement. With a Fablon covered case, it looked quite smart and I managed to sell it for £20.

Another PCB,

The whole board is here,

Does anyone know what it was for? Those square silver components have 12 pins, 4 x 4 with pins on the perimeter only.

Doesn't look familiar - bit of ancient computer, or exchange/switch card?
Possibly 1960s

That PCB is nothing I recognise. On another subject, here's a bit of handmade jewellery. Lots of beads all put together by my wife:

Ooh! I like a challenge.

Well the square things are three transistors or logic gates in a package. The first steps in computer integration.

In fact, your card looks suspiciously like one of those in the card frame shown on that page. Part of the processor of an IBM 360? A microprocessor without the micro!

I think you got it ! [Sadly no 'like' button now.] edit: 'like is back...
I could tell it wasn't military (no NSNs in sight) and was probably from a large equip manufacturer using their own custom part numbers

Thanks Gryff - a standard format card used by IBM for almost everything of that age. It is interesting to know what the metal cans are.

Apart from the resistors and the two yellow/red capacitors, there is very little informative marking or writing on the other components. Most have a seven-digit code and have numbered pins but no values. The cans, as well as having numbers, are marked "IBM WF" except for one marked "IBM-YV".

Also, it doesn't look robust enough to be military, and there is no thick conformal coating.

Conformal coating is used selectively , as it makes fault finding/repair a pig! I've got a fair bit of CLANSMAN era radio stuff which is nicely built but not encapsulated. The older stuff was occasionally 'tropicalised' - which seemed to involve dipping in varnish....

I started by googling the part numbers. And found this: http://ibm-slt-reference.wikia.com/wiki/SLT_Board_List
Which lists all those encapsulated parts. The "chips" have a selection of different logic gates. Early 74LS logic. Though they're not actually silicon chips. They're tiny discrete transistors glued onto a ceramic "chip".

The module list is here, http://ibm-slt-reference.wikia.com/wiki/SLT_Module_List . So I have some logic gates, some diodes and some transistors.

Restoration of a photograph taken in WW1. It took some doing since bits of it were completely missing but got there in the end:

"It took some doing" sounds a bit of an understatement. That's impressive! I can muddle along to eliminate specks of dust from scanned 35mm slides, but I wouldn't know where to start with your task.

Out of interest, what software did you use?

Hello kiloran - Thanks :) Corel Photo-Paint was used for the restoration (part of the CorelDraw Suite).

£500!!!??? Ouch!
Does it keep your beer topped up and provide winsome lasses to massage you? That's the minimum I'd expect for that price.

I think I had version 8 when that photo was done. The current version I have is X7 Home & Student. Photo-Paint in this is still functional enough to do restorations but is much more affordable. Around £70 on Amazon.
