This picture , in the link below , shows one "ghost" sign , over-written on top of a previous sign .
Seems strange that there's a word to describe this . I had never heard the word till this last week .
Any idea what it is ?

A word that springs to mind is palimpsest. This word, strictly speaking, only applies to scrolls and books, not walls, however.

It was actually used on a Facebook page dedicated to "ghost" signs .

And written in other directions, as in one lot of writing let to right then turn the page 90 degrees and write some more, then turn it 45 degrees and write some more then 90 degrees for the final lot on that side. Turn the page over and repeat.
Horrible to read, at first especially when written in pencil in WWI trenches.

Yes I've seen that on an old postcard from the early 1900s . Twice as much info and saves a stamp !

Back in my schooldays, I didn't believe in wasting paper.
So apart from cultivating very small handwriting, I took to writing in pencil, so I could later re-use the paper by overwriting in pen.
