So where's all this snow ...
...we wuz promised? The local forecast was pleasantly doomy, predicting a jolly cold snap and heavy snow falls, but so far all we've had is a modest dusting, and even that's melting away.
Sadly, decent snow is a rarity west of the Pennines, but on the basis of the forecast I'd specifically wheeled out my trusty Punto with winter tyres, and was looking forward to a merry romp in snow-girt roads. It's all very disappointing so far.
Anyone else had more luck (though I suspect there will be some who'd dispute the term 'luck')?

Re: So where's all this snow ...
Here in Edinburgh, as Radio 4 were saying at lunchtime that Scotland was "blanketed with snow", I looked outside and saw what looked like a light dusting of talcum powder.
And nothing much has fallen since.
Scott.

Steady on as Snorvey might repeat his Thundersnow talcum powder joke.

Very poor here in Royal Berkshire
Moderate rain this pm. Then some 'slower rain' which was the heavy snow I suspect, then drizzle.
Meanwhile my various friends on Facebook have been posting lovely pictures of snowy Austria, Bulgaria, Poland etc
Pah!

Yes, well maybe not in your case, and it was at DAK so obviously totally on Topic etc etc.

The serious point is of course that it is a bit like the boy who cried wolf. In the Western side of Perthshire we have had little or nothing. Mind you in a country where it seems that more than half an inch of snow causes chaos...........

I could have a good rant at weather men and papers that spout gloom.
It has a direct effect on people's spending, going out and such.
Which must have an effect on the economy?
I bet there are more than a few that cancel work or book the day off, just in case.

Predict storms and get it wrong , or fail to predict a bad storm ? I can see why they err on the side of caution.

Currently about an inch in the Potteries, a few miles south east of Stoke on Trent. It's been snowing on and off all day but only enough to stick in the last two or three hours, and it's still snowing now.
Coincidentally, the local news at 10.30 this evening featured a live report on the weather from half a mile from where I live, and the main road was covered though not yet enough to make driving "interesting"

Re: So where's all this snow ...
The snow warning were a bit OTT and nothing much happened but the weather gurus have wasted no time in the next warning...storm surges and flooding on the West coast.
Tornadoes to follow shortly with a large helping of un seasonably hot weather to come.
