Is this the most boring place ever? Now there's talk of spending billions on an underpass.
Bulldoze it and put something interesting there.

I'm nosey just to know why it was built and how have we managed to forget for years?
I suspect the under pass is just an excuse to charge more people for access. Is not cheap or easy to see anymore

Also I feel a little sad we talk so much of old architecture but we haven't built anything for the sake of it for years.

Eiffel tower is probably the newest pointless object that has since drawn millions of tourist dollars.
We need some more pyramids or something.
Dubai made an island look like a world map, but it's a commercial project for holiday rentals.

Millennium Dome?

I like Stonehenge anyway - Hawkwind played there IIRC. That's obviously what it was 'for'

The dome is a commercial venue. You don't go to see it as a work of art but what is used for.

I've been there once or twice - I wasn't being entirely serious :)
Stonehenge was a place of worship/observatory - so more modern examples may include Coventry cathedral, Neasden Hindu Temple (Shri Swaminarayan Mandir) etc
Perhaps they should be excluded as they have a functional element being buildings, so I nominate;

Avebury is better - you can get right inside the circle, and have a pint at the Red Lion

For some reason my wife calls it 'Stonge'. It was built as a place of pilgrimage for Chinese tourists.

It's just a coincidence that they built it near the road - which is always jammed solid between March and October. You can easily wile away an hour or so trying to get past.
