Re: Warm fior the time of year...
I cycled into town yesterday, setting off at 6:45 am.
It was -5 when I arrived in Altrincham for the tram.
It was not warm.

Minus 6 right now in the deep south!
Prefer it to rain though and last year's 15c on Xmas day was just not right!

Re: Warm fior the time of year...
Cheery memories of the time (in my schooldays) when I was required to go and watch some boring rugby match or other, about a mile and a half from the school. Rather than walking, I decided to take the motorbike. But it was getting a bit nippy (mild euphemism), and I'd left my gauntlets in my locker. Never mind, I had to get a move on, so I set off. As I arrived at the pitch, I looked down and saw that my hands were covered in blood. The skin between my fingers had frozen and cracked, and the laws of hydraulics had done the rest. Not a mistake I ever made again.

Would your name be a clue to your location?

Indirectly (if that is possible, for the location). Its too early, yet, to be in Panama. The rainy season sucks and when its not raining its about 99% humidity, which is just warm rain. We will be there, all being well, between January and May.
No, the temperature I refered to today, is France where we spend the Summer and Autumn.

So whereabouts in France are you? According to this weather map even the warmest area down near Biarritz was only around 16C today - http://tinyurl.com/jx43mqt
I'm going to be looking at the Ryanair website very shortly!

The pots of geraniums we have on the terrace are still going strong.
Ah, you fell for the oldest trick in the book and, you being an attorney, shouldn't believe all you read.
All these forecasts and weather statistics only relate to a shade temperature. All well and good if your able to find shade. At the begining of August, this year, France Meteo were forecasting 42°C (107.6°F) for our locale. Hot heh? The actual temperature according to our thermometer and the digital gizmo outside the pharmicie down the road was infact 54°C (129.2°F). Now that is hhhhhotttt! Infact there isn't much difference, comfort wise, between 42 or 55.
Up to a very pleasant 28°C the past couple days.

Would that be a similar scenario to Scotland being full of Scots and all that?

Re: Warm fior the time of year...
Forecast to drop to -10C here overnight, and that's in the Middle East. There's still snow on the ground from when it last fell about a week ago now. Ditto the disc of ice on the ornamental fountain in the communal garden that's currently at least 1" thick.
... despite which this will all be 'in one ear, out the other' when I next speak with my parents back home, who have this peculiar idea that in the Middle East we spend 365 days a year at the beach and/or working on our suntans...

Re: Warm fior the time of year...
We hit +18°C at 14.00 today. However, our lowest temperatures are reached around dawn as the sun rises and the past few days those temperatures have been between -8°C and -10°C. Friends living lower down the boulevarde, closer to the river, were subjected to -14°C on Wednesday morning.
Another positive side to this weather sequence, warmish wall to wall sunshine days with freezing nights, is that it is now possible to be able to see the sky is blue right up and till 18.30.
