Luni's board?
As I said on TMF I hope Luni comes over and takes over this board. I for one will really miss his summaries and weekly diary. Just as my HYP is starting to flower I am realising how much value he has been willing to give away for free.
His absence will be a big hole.
Fingers are tightly crossed!!

Re: Luni's board?
The big L is notorious for sticking to his timetable. I would imagine he will continue in "the other place" until his monthly schedule completes, or as much as is possible. I would then hope we start to see him reappear here. So fingers crossed come Friday the 18th we should be able to see his Week Ahead, and other posts here.
At least I very much hope so

I can't believe anyone would be so rude as to take Luni's username. I'm sure he will be along when he is ready.

Re: Luni's board?
The key to Luni posting here will be the ease of formatting tables. At present, I doubt it is convenient enough for him (or me) to use. Hopefully, that will be solved before long, otherwise we may have to do without many potential contributions.
The same goes with placing images or clickable links which were often used in TMF.
A week or so settling down and ironing out the bugs will pass before we can be sure this forum structure is "the one".

Re: Luni's board?
Yes Arb,
Just looked at the latest posting by Luni on TMF, on long term trickling in funds in CTY(which pretty much coincides with our own long term data, although his implied IRR is a little higher than ours, maybe because of his assumptions on costs), and indeed until the tables issue is sorted, he would have difficulty in posting his usual stuff.
The other one which is a concern is that at present we can't start any thread by the very common reference to an RNS for others to click on, won't be easy at key reporting times until this is sorted.
Last one would by handling threads as the site get populated with a myriad of posts.
I am personally not bothered about recs at all.
The possibilities for 'tutorial' type posts looks 'tremendous' because images can be displayed, although I, for one, would need a tutorial on how to get from excel to that an image of part of a spreadsheet because I never do it at present.
But this looks like a tremendous effort so far.
Because it is a new start, maybe some posters won't think they 'own' some boards and more latitude will be allowed on, say, HYP Practical.

Re: Luni's board?
Jon,
Assuming that you are a Windows user, you can use the Snipping Tool utility to "capture" your Excel table (which will look better if you first turn off the grid lines in Excel) and save it as a picture in jpg format. You could then insert the picture as an image into a post - except for the fact that the ability to insert images is currently turned off to stop spam and other indesirables.
However, it is presently under consideration that regular users with, say, a minimum of 10 posts could be allowed to insert images (and URLs) into their posts.
This method of presenting tables is really only a stop-gap solution until better BB code can be written to make tables easier to produce in a post.
Hope that helps.

Re: Luni's board?
Thanks, SeagoonN, I will look into that.

Its strange, worked all my life with IT on complex projects, but long retired you lose touch so quickly, still more than ok with the spreadsheets themselves thankfully.

Re: Luni's board?
The [code] (put your table in here) [/code] option is the only practical one currently available. The 'pros' are that it doesn't mess with the layout (wont word-wrap until about 120 characters wide, I think) and you can select/copy the text should you need to refer to it in a reply, the 'con' is that for large tables (by columns and/or rows) you end up with scroll bars, you can't see it all in one go.

That looks good enough for me.
Yes, not too bad - but it's not a complex table. Imagine how one of Luni's 'announcements this Quarter' posts may look - each row lots of dates (announced, ex-, paid, AGM, next results, etc.), with the heading to decipher them some 50-100 rows above them. It was bad enough for the really long tables on TMF checking back to the header to check what each date represented, and that only needed scrolling up a web page. The code box shows a dozen rows at best.
Oh, and the table in the code box may word-wrap if seen on a small phone screen.

Re: Luni's board?
Code: Select all
Ticker Forecast Yield Income % Ov/under median Cap % on cost
MKS 6.20% 2.77 0.83 2.91%
PSON 6.80% 3.35 0.91 3.54%
LLOY 5.70% 2.50 0.81 4.23%
LGEN 6.90% 3.64 0.98 2.14%
IRV 7.80% 4.43 1.05 1.93%
VOD 5.80% 2.67 0.85 1.94%
CNA 5.80% 2.85 0.91 3.72%
GNK 4.60% 2.01 0.81 1.64%
CLLN 7.50% 4.35 1.08 3.88%
EMG 5.60% 2.54 0.84 2.62%
The problem seems to be that if you just copy and paste from Excel, you end up with formatting problems again, as above. Well, I guess that's no worse than TMF. I haven't tried reformatting the above as I can hear cries of "dinner's ready", but I assume it would be the usual quarter or half hour fiddle. The alternative is to post an URL which people can paste into their browser: http://i.imgur.com/yOKJOpf.jpg, but that is not so immediate for the reader.

Agreed .
I hope posters and this new start website will be more flexible and less territorial.
I would also like to have the facility for likes AND dislikes rather than recs.

I agree with regards to Luni coming over here. As it is he posted his Week Ahead post over at TMF as usual, and here's a link to that thread;

Kübler-Ross model, Stage 1 - Denial. Classic symptoms include pretending that the news has not been given and continuing life as if nothing has happened.
Treatment - You can move a person out of denial by deliberately provoking them to anger.
That's where everyone posting pleas to Luni on the old TMF boards has been going wrong. Words of sympathy and pleading are not going to be so effective. Any volunteers?

Re: Luni's board?
I think Luni will post on TMF until 17 Nov, then he'll come over. Similarly I expect to see the always entertaining review of HYP1 in the other place, before hopefully migrating.
