Yes, well worth a visit, if you can. It's been open in the past during the London Open House weekend, which is when I visited it some years ago, but unless I'm missing it it doesn't appear to be so this year.

Long ago i had friend who worked at the FO. We used to go for walks around Richmond Park. On one occasion, when she had come prepared, i remember saying it wouldn't rain. Wrong: I got drenched. Never crossed my mind to ask her for a tour of her workplace.

My parents met there in late 1940s, mum always described dad as "the man who might push you down the stairs" so it was a delight to see those stairs on a tour some years back.

I knew my life was slipping away too quickly when I applied for a languages job at the Foreign Office, only to be told that I was too old to be considered. I was 28. :(
