When I think of Pele I think of that team he was part of. As a 10 year old used to the muddy pitch, blood and thunder of English footie seeing the 1962 WC with him and Garrincha and others was like seeing a different sport entirely. So exotic, so skillful and so exciting. Light years in advance of England and all other European nations.
These days all the best SA players play in Europe and we see so much of them in Euro club footie. Back then it was a rare treat to see them.
Was he the best ever? I don't know but most of Brazil seem to think so.
