I use Surfshark and saw this new feature being discussed:
https://www.cloudwards.net/surfshark-alternative-id/
You can choose a new name and a country, then Surfshark creates both a real address and email address for you. Then, all emails sent to this new email get forwarded to your real email address. Supposedly to increase privacy when registering with websites.
I couldn't help thinking that isn't all this a bit over-kill? Can't you just use a VPN and open one of those throw-away email addresses I've seen advertised? As for age, physical address etc, apart from important sites like financial and official organisations etc, nobody is stupid enough to use their real data these days.
I'm sure that I'm missing something.
