I keep all apps in the dock. With some apps, whenever i click its icon to open, instead of the app icon displaying a little triangle? at the bottom of the icon to confirm it's open, a second icon pops up towards the end of the dock. I find it a nuisance and would prefer to just have the one icon with its open triangle.
DAK please why this happens and how it can.be avoided?

Re: Mac OS Sierra - dock question
Look in System Preferences -> Dock, and make sure the checkbox "Minimize windows into application icon" is checked.

Re: Mac OS Sierra - dock question
Thanked too soon.
I enabled as you suggested and having restarted imac this morning, a "phantom" is still appearing on the dock when I open an app.
Having search on-line, apparently apps can appear in more than one window on the dock. Pending a solution, I shall adjust.
