W10 Update & restart (not)
DAK why a W10 laptop often fails to restart after an automatic update - just showing circling series of dots? It then starts ok if it is powered off and then on. The update history then normally says the updates were successfully installed.

No I don't. The two Win10 machines I have do the circling dots thing after an automatic reset for a minute or two. I have never done a manual restart at this point, just waited.
It may be you are too impatient or possibly there is a problem. Have a look in Event Viewer for anything at the time of the reboot. You could also run the System File Scan to make sure all Windows System Files are OK:
