How to measure a gate bolt?

We have a couple of the 'Brenton' bolts holding a gate closed and I want a couple for the other gate to match.

The ones fitted are 205mm long measuring the black backplate fitted to the gate, and bolt into holes in the brickwork or patio - ie the 'receiver' part isn't used. The bolt linked to above says 227.3mm however does anyone know if this is the total length including the reciever, max length with bolt extended, or length of the bolt backplate only?

Thanks.

Paul

It's usually the length of the backplate.

What I normally do in these situations is check it by taking the width (45mm) and using that i scale the length. That shows the backplate on its own as the quoted measurement.

I feel you! When I upgraded mine, I went for the total length, including the receiver. So, 227.3mm might cover it all.

Hi there - please can you provide a total length measurement including breakdown of main body and keep? Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The keep is around 30 mm long and the main body around 195mm long. Overall length is 227mm.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for using Q&A.

To me 30 plus 195 does not equal 227 but maybe this is good enough for you.

Adding together the length of the keep and the length of the backplate doesn't have to equal the overall length because the bolt length is likely to include an allowance for the slight gap between the two items when fitted. 2.3mm in this case.

Grrr. Just realised that the OP has doubtless fixed his gate already given that this is a resurrected post from 2020.
