Hello, hope she is OK - assume she's in hospital?

Yes, they have to do scans and what not. She hit her head very hard.
I'll have to go home at some point but I'm panicking in case the worst happens.

Don't panic, I'm sure she'll be ok. She's being looked after.
Good luck

Hi Diziet
She's got a sub wot sit haematoma, they will observe for a while before deciding what to do, if anything.

They usually only wait and see if the subdural haematoma is small. It those cases it usually just gets absorbed. Otherwise, if she is otherwise fit, they go in and drain in just as you would do with any other large collection of blood that might cause pressure on underlying tissues.

Hope you have better news soon.

Aww, so sorry to 'hear' about your mum, Sunny. Fingers crossed she's able to come home soon.

Hi sunny, I had a head injury earlier in the year, fractured skull, bruising of the brain and bleeding in the brain.

I don't know how old your mum is but I will tell you my experience. I was taken to the hospital neurology department, They did scans at regular intervals and monitored my condition. Basically they waited to see if my condition deteriorated (think the concern is swelling of the brain). It stabilised and after 10 days they decided the bruising and bleeding was getting better (I don't know the technicalities). I was sent home shortly after.

I had a shocking headache the whole time so I was on pain killers . A week after release the headache eased and I was ok.

I'm 61, assuming your mum is older she may take longer to get better. There is an increased risk of epilepsy after a head injury so she will probably be on an anti epileptic drug to reduce the risk. Don't worry unduly it doesn't happen in most case. Just be aware of it.

I hope your mum gets better soon, give her lots of love because she will be very shaken by the experience.

I hope that helps.

Sorry you went through that, all okay now I hope?

We are in weird territory now
Mum is 78, in poor health generally and not keen to have any invasive treatment, my father is desperately upset.
I am upset too and I had to say to her I won't put pressure on her but I can't say okay, I don't mind.

I am not sure if this is too heavy for the boards but I havent discussed it with friends in real life because I don't want to burden them and some know her so it would be hard on them too.

So if people can cope I may have to keep posting on here with updates. I do know how dad feels, she is the love of my life too but it is not in my nature to pressure people to do stuff they don't want to do. Plus dad is close in age, scared of losing the woman he met as a teen, but I guess we all know we have to face the loss of a parent don't we.

Thanks again to clariman and stooz for this board, so good to have when you are going about as normal talking to friends about Strictly etc! I am supposed to be at work on Minday too, I'm knackered but perhaps better if I go.

LadyG, only just saw you there after I posted. Hi, thanks and glad you are here too. Still catching up with who has come over, most people maybe?

Hi Sunny, I'm doing fine regarding the head injury, the spinal injury is more of a problem.

I'm sure you've already done it many times but just give your dad another hug. He will need all the support he can get. So do you for that matter, take care of yourself.

I can't speak for other posters but for my part feel free to post as much as you need. The idea of this board is that we support each other even if that just means letting you use us as a sounding board to clarify your own thoughts.

Take care.

Would it help if you told us what sort of treatment that she is really not keen on?

She isn't that old by today's standards - my friend complained to her GP that she was having old age problems and was told briskly that they don't consider anyone as elderly until they are over 90!

Often people are more worried, too, about their spouse not being able to cope without them - could that be a factor?

Only just seen your post and am so sorry I wasn't here earlier.

If my thoughts count for anything, then by all means keep posting here just as you would have done on TMF. I am sure I am not the only person here who would very much like to know how your Mum is progressing.

Sending sympathy and best wishes to you and your parents.
