I feel your pain. I had family members telling me that something was valuable only to find it was in fact a liability.

House clearance wouldn't take a dining room table and chairs as the fire stickers were missing. I put it up free to good home and couldn't believe to amount of messing and hassle from people who were getting something for nothing. It did eventually get a good home.

Yes cheques can be problematic but some banks allow you to photograph them and pay in online. Much simpler than a trip to a bank that seems to never be open.
