Re: NEW french tax sticker
Won't be too burdensome if they're only 4.18 euros each. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01 ... indscreen/ Of course, you'll have to order them by post from the French-only website, which will be a bit of a bummer if you don't understand the lingo. (It looks like this: https://www.service-public.fr/professio ... its/F33793) But I daresay the ferry companies will be all over this situation before long.

Your link is for HGVs.
The link for members of the public is: www[dot]certificat-air[dot]gouv[dot]fr/demande/cgu
As it stands, to get one you will need your carte grise, France's equivalent of a V5. They will send the 'sticker' to the address registered on your carte grise, notwithstanding any other address you might put on your application. So that won't work for British drivers.
Supposedly they will be open to providing stickers to foreign drivers from Feb 2017, but given the French version is already behind schedule and this concerns motoring, it seems to me this should just be approached in a very French way...

Re: NEW french tax sticker
I guess that as we in UK have ANPR, which could provide the necessary Euro code (whether it does is another matter), we should be able to effectively police the low pollution zones with a 'sticker'.
Not many people realise that (for instance) the difference in particle counts (PM) between pre 2009 Diesel cars and newer cars (Euro5) for PM is a factor of 30. What is it for commercial vehicles and taxis?

It was also interesting to read the Wikipedia article on the matter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_ ... _standards
"Since 2012, ADAC performs regular pollutant emission tests [40][41] on a specific cycle in the laboratory duly representing a real driving environment and gives a global notation independent from the type of engine used (petrol, diesel, natural gas, LPG, hybrid, etc.). To get the maximum 50/50 note on this cycle, the car shall emit less than the minimum limit applicable to either petrol or diesel car, that is to say 100 mg HC, 500 mg CO, 60 mg NOx, 3 mg PM and 6×1010 PN. Unlike ambient discourse dirty diesel versus clean petrol cars, the results are much more nuanced and subtle. Some Euro6 diesel cars perform as well as the best hybrid petrol cars; some other recent Euro6 petrol indirect injection cars perform as the worst Euro5 diesel cars; finally some petrol hybrid cars are at the same level as the best Euro5 diesel cars.[42][43]"

Well, that reduces the number of places I might visit later this year.
However unless you are actually going to Paris, then I don't think there's anything to worry about yet.
