Out of about 30 or so films that I've seen this year, there's been the usual mixture of good, bad and indifferent, so here are a few highlights/lowlights. I'm sure not everyone will agree, in particular about the omission "Arrival" which many people think was a great film, but not my cup of tea.
Top 10 films - Zootropolis, Bridge of Spies, Eye in the Sky, The Martian, Jungle Book, Florence Foster Jenkins, Zoolander II, Love & Friendship, Passengers, Joy.
Best cinematography - Revenant (shame about the plot)
Best (only!) comedy films - Zoolander II, Love & Friendship.
Best "so bad it's good" film - Gods of Egypt.
Best animated film - Zootropolis
Best non-animated film - Bridge of Spies
Best film - Zootropolis
Best unexpected (pleasant) surprise - Florence Foster Jenkins
Worst film - Independence Day (Resurgence)

Re: best films of 2016?
Mostly felt that this was a bad year for films. My pick of the year is...
Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
