Leaving the circus...
Another mate of mine worked for a big name circus until recently. In fact he was their "Human Canonball".
He wasn't getting any younger and was suffering quite a bit from the physical toll on his body, so after much thought he decided to pack it in and resign.
The ringmaster was really upset and begged him to stay, saying "Where am I going to find another man of your calibre?"

Discharged? No, it would be the canon that got discharged. It must be something-else.

Some have more luck. My human cannonball mate had a parabolic career path.

I'd heard it has its ups and downs

Yeah, you just gotta go for the juggler.
Like all circus acts, it requires intense concentration!

Aaaah, we shan't see the old joke again, so let's give it a lap of honour? When the queen has a baby, they give her a 21 gun salute. Whereas when a nun has a baby, they fire the dirty old canon.
Now, if this queen had a baby, they'd be asking whether there might be some substance to HRH's nutty health ideas after all?

Re: Leaving the circus...
I used to be a circus human cannonball. The pay wasn't good but they threw in travel expenses.
They couldn't sack me because I was the only one who could get the tent back in the bag!
