I recently went through the phone cancellation process for the Times after having signed up for (if I remember correctly £1 for 4 months or similar).

I expected this might be a bit of a tussle given that the original welcome email made it clear that phone was the only way to go, and indeed I was put through to some sort of cancellation specialist who tried all sorts of ways to get me to continue - including offering a 75% and then 90% reduction to the subscription price.

It took a while and multiple goes around but it did get formally cancelled on this one phone call.

WRT phone cancellations only, if one was deaf - one could spend a very long time saying "pardon" to the cancellation expert.

If you follow my drift. Assuming you had a lot of time to keep saying "pardon" of course.
