The answer is a contrived way of mentioning something I learned from Wikipedia, about James Doohan, aka "Scotty", the engineer from Star Trek.

Selectively quoting Wikipedia,
"A portion of his ashes, ΒΌ ounce (7 grams), was scheduled the following fall for a memorial flight to space ... Launch on the SpaceLoft XL rocket was delayed to April 28, 2007, when the rocket briefly entered outer space in a four-minute suborbital flight before parachuting to earth, as planned, with the ashes still inside... "

"Some of Doohan's ashes are hidden under the floor cladding of the International Space Station's Columbus module - after being smuggled aboard in 2008 by Richard Garriott..."

"On May 22, 2012, a small urn containing some of Doohan's remains in ash form was flown into space aboard the Falcon 9 rocket as part of COTS Demo Flight 2."

...So. In the end it was Scotty who, in a manner of speaking, was finally beamed up?

Once it's 'dust to dust', I don't think it counts.

William Shatner (Capt Kirk) is the only one who has actually been in space (on Bezos's rocket).

I believe Gene Roddenberry (or different parts of his cremains) has already been up in space a couple of times (with another I've heard of planned)
- and he had a cameo in Star Trek as a chef

...as you did say it was a trick question ;)
