The JB income portfolio can be viewed in this "Keeping a perspective" IC article:

I'm not sure if registration maybe required.

so if a person had, say, about 400k to invest for income, how much would it cost to copy this portfolio and set it up and how much income would one expect to get from it?

Also, are there any similar portfolios based on US dollars out there?

If you want to copy it fairly exactly, and since he does make changes/re balancing trims to it fairly frequently, you would have to subscribe to his web site, which is behind a pay wall. Likewise, you can do that by subscribing to the IC, but you would be behind the events somewhat and there is not guarantee he will continue with those articles.

Many if his changes are very well timed, for example on bond based ITs and ETFs, he let go of the bond ETFs near peak, but kept the three ITs. I think that over the next year or so he might make changes there too as/if interest rates rise.

Your 400k would be the kind of amount to invest and copy him because some of his trimmings are relatively small, hence imo require a fair amount invested to be cost effective.

You ask about the income, well in a tax shelter it yields a net 4.8% at present. One off cost to set up from scratch, just less than 0.5% stamp(some are exempt), plus dealing depending on your platform, plus spread, the latter no problem with his ITs, plus any selling costs if wanting to change an existing portfolio. So in the first year a step back as one would expect on set up.

His returns are fine, however. Better than many I can think of who would make you think they have all the answers with faulty mantras. For young pot builders some of his other portfolios would be very good too imo.

Can't help you with the US question, we do have a very simple 'american' portfolio, outside tax shelters, aimed at growth and avoiding income.

We, my wife to be exact, hold a few of his ITs, but do not need to follow him having got into ITs many decades ago, and 28% approx. of our overall market investments are in them, 39% in the ISAs. I subscribe to the IC, long habit, so I have been casting my eye on his progress and enjoy reading his articles when he sticks to investment rather than straying into politics. His knowledge of ITs is very good, and he has prime access to people in the industry.

Perhaps someone can help with a question that's puzzling me.

John Baron's website shows 6 portfolios; the four seasons plus a thematic and a dividend. I had always assumed that the Income Portfolio in Investors Chronicle was the same as the Dividend one on the website. However, as shown above the IC Income Portfolio contains 17 investments whereas the Dividend (according to the Rationale page on the JB Portfolio website) only has 8.

So are they different, and if so, what is the difference in their mandates, Income and Dividend?

Come on, somebody must know.

What's the difference between JB's Income Portfolio in Investors Chronicle and his Dividend Portfolio on the eponymous website?

And for completeness, the Winter Portfolio too (which I assume is also income focused)?

Not looking for the holdings btw, just the difference in mandate, approach etc.

The Winter Portfolio objective is to maximise dividend payouts at the expense of potential capital gain.

It is all about high yield via corporate bonds, UK and International Equity Income and UK Property Direct ITs.

The Dividend Portfolio is quite similar but with less emphasis on bonds and no property content.

Maybe currently but he has included the iShares Corp Bond ETFs, ISXF & SLXX, before.
