Great to see we have a photography board again.

I came across this sad news the other day. Rodney Smith was an eclectic old school film only photographer. For those who do not know his work then you can see some here. https://goo.gl/HyYjOP.

He allegedly said “My feelings about photography are exactly the same today as when I was 20. That is, I have a love/hate relationship with making pictures.” Looking at pictures is one thing, he qualifies, “But making pictures — making pictures for me is hard, hard work.”

Looking at his work you can only imagine how much hard work and time he spent preparing and setting some of the scenes up.

Thanks for this Cal. I have not heard of him before. I like his work, it has a sort of Magritte feel to it, very normal but surreal at the same time. I was fascinated to see where he lived, Snedens Landing

which looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but if you crane your neck you can probably see the Manhattan skyline.

Interesting work, but starting at $7000...probably more now that he has died.
