That phrase “lessons will be learned”, so misused in politics. Well here’s how it’s used by scientists.

Dear Politician,

We have worked hard, we have learned & from this base we will improve.

To continue this outstanding work we will need more investment.

Politician:

How much more energy have you produced than consumed?

Scientist:

That is not the point, we have advanced & we can now base our future on this historical work.

Politician to pollster:

If we fund this will we get more votes than a tax cut?

Pollster:

No

Politician:

Give them as little as possible.

Scientist:

Thank you for your faith in us.
