Just wanted to rescue Sawneys GRO index link that was on TMF last year , before it disappears . I know I could bookmark it but often use different devices to access the web so handy to keep the link in one place.
There are new GRO indexes (Many thanks to the "Lost Cousins" newsletter) on the GRO website here....

Even if you are already registered, you may have to request a new activation code to access.
The new indexes for births 1837 - 1915 give maiden surname as well. Previously unavailable before 1911.
New index for deaths give age at death from 1837 through to 1957. previously from 1866.

http://lostcousins.com/newsletters2/mar17xtra.htm
The GRO yesterday announced the commencement of the third and final phase of their PDF trial.
This time the focus is on marriages and more recent births and deaths - records that were not digitised during the DoVE project nearly a decade ago:
Births 1935-2006
Marriages 1837-2010
Deaths 1958-2006
The cost of each PDF will be £8...trial ends 12 April.....
