Are there any particularly posh bits of Wales, especially outside the cities? I know of posh parts of England and Scotland but have never heard of any bits of Wales that are particularly expensive or highly sought after.

Is this because they don't exist or just because I've not heard of them?

I have been to lots of beautiful places in Wales but they have been pretty remote and I believe they are pretty cheap to live in. Pembrokeshire springs to mind. It's an utterly lovely place.

Well, there's a Waitrose on the Anglesey side of the Menai Bridge, does that count? A friend tells me he once saw Kate Middleton in there.

Most towns and cities have posh bits but I guess you'd have to define how big a 'bit' is and what you mean by 'posh' to get a definitive answer, I've seen plenty of desirable looking places to live in North Wales, a friend in Beaumaris has a beautiful house with a fantastic view, lots of space and a decent lifestyle, much cheaper than he could have an equivalent in Guildford or Oxford (actually there isn't much in the way of sea or mountains in those two so even better value)

Interesting question- Wales doesn't seem to have suffered the fate of the East Anglian and Cornish coastal areas. There really are some lovely towns and villages with very affordable property. I guess the main factor is the poor communications to the rest of the country.
As previously mentioned I assumed Cardiff would have 'posh' areas - all cities do- the lawyers, doctors, and bankers have always needed somewhere to live!

That, and the risk of fire if you leave your holiday cottage empty? Though I think that's gone out of fashion now.....

Ah, those were the days. Lounging on the poopdeck with Bunty and Bertie.

When we moved to Monmouthshire, a Welsh friend from Cardiff told us that it was the Beverly Hills of Wales!

But seriously, the area north of Chepstow to Usk, Monmouth and as far as Abergavenny is pretty posh (rural obviously). It takes in the Usk and Wye Valleys with the Black Mountains as a backdrop, yet parts of it are less than 30 minutes from Bristol and an hour to Cardiff. Quite a few £1m+ properties and very good schools in Monmouth. Its a safe Tory seat. The population is a mix of Welsh rural, Welsh posh, Bristol commuters and people-who-cant-afford-Gloucestershire.

Another Monmouthshire-ite here. We moved down last year from Yorkshire and now live in the Usk valley. I wouldn't call it posh because I consider "poshness" a negative trait in an area (keeping up with the neighbours, eye watering house prices, new German car(s) on the drive, not being part of the community, etc). Perhaps I generalise and maybe I'm mixing up "posh" with "snob". What I have found is that the people are very friendly, the area is outstanding in its beauty and I wished I'd moved here years ago.

I know that Abergavenny is regarded as a bit posh by those who live in the valleys to the west - it is certainly more expensive than the valleys and has a railway station to reach places like Manchester - and, with a change at Newport, London.
There are also several gated properties around Usk where people who wear shiny shoes commute to the city (London, Bristol, etc). And there are attractive posh bits of Cardiff too.

There are places on the outskirts of most towns in North Wales that could be regarded as "posh". The villages of Marford and Gresford on the outskirts of Wrexham are regarded as posh and parts of Llangollen as well. As far as the coast is concerned Llandudno was always regarded as upmarket, certainly when compared to other coastal resorts. The villages of Nercwys and Llanarmon yn Ial are desirable areas so is the town of Ruthin. There are loads of expensive individual houses for sale on the outskirts of Bala but whether these would be considered posh is another matter.

We never found that one, but did find The Grapevine Bistro and the one in the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways station. First OK, 2nd not so OK, though not horrible.

Nearly all of the others were dark and locked by 8pm every night.

So far as I'm aware you can't buy property in Portmeirion as it all forms part of the hotel complex.

llandudno is still very good.

colwyn bay - the place of my first holidays on day train excursions from birmingham (steam of course) , is now awful .

caernarfon isnt bad , and the trip there on the west highland railway from portmadog is magic.

st.davids is a special place , the cathedral setting is unique , the nearby coastal walks delightful in may/june.

i wouldnt call it posh though.
