Pointed out on FT Alphaville this morning that Stellar Diamonds have put out an RNS titled '709 Carat diamond discovered'. It's only when you read it that it becomes clear it wasn't found by them!

Re: 709 Carat Diamond found
I've often wondered, why are diamonds valued so highly? Is it for their industrial uses or for jewellery or...?

Re: 709 Carat Diamond found
Rarity and difficulty to extract I guess is their perceived 'store of value'.
Well, the enormous drilling machines do tend to break down if not oiled in the right places.
Oh and the Curry's salesman will happily try to convince you to spend seventy quid on some 'superior' gold plated HDMI leads for your telly.
Good God! Does the Currys shop still exist? I knew it was owned by Dixons and they used to employ the same spotty youths. How did they manage to circulate so many brain dead spotty youths back then? I guess they had some kind of transfer system, maybe a minibus or something. So many memories! Those balmy, late spring evenings buying a pair of speakers for 15 quid and being offered an extended warranty for another 15 quid. Oh, and the gold plated speaker leads! Dexie's Midnight Runners never sounded as sweet!
