Yes, I’m aware of that, but it’s a bit generic. I was thinking that if you needed a specific sum of money to make improvements it’d be easier to raise it, as there would then be a target to aim for rather than just chucking coins in a bucket and hoping it’d help :)

Thanks for the offer.

It would overcomplicate things to have separate "general donations" and "upgrade donations" buttons, I think. Stooz is on to it. He has upgraded the test database successfully but still has more work to do.

Is there enough in the donations piggy-bank to keep Stooz in beer while he carries out all this work?

Had issues logging in earlier today and just now - received this message. Not sure if this is helpful or if you already know :)

I was getting the same at about 8.10am today until about 8.30am, when I stopped trying.

Was fine later, at about 10.30am. Ish.

Curiously, I tried to log on at the (presumably) 'low demand' time of 1.15am this morning and kept getting:

This site can’t be reachedlemonfool.co.uk took too long to respond.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_TIMED_OUT

All other websites seemed to be working normally, just TLF 'unreachable'. Tried multiple times, gave up in the end.

Not sure if this is known.

For the last two nights after about 9pm access has been slow, intermittent and at time impossible.

This morning access has been intermittent and has deteriorated during the course of the morning.

Thank you

Site access has been truly crap for most of the last few days. A few periods of decent access but that's increasingly becoming the rarity.

When it is possible to access the site it takes 20~30 secs to change a page. I have to ask is TLF failing?

Stooz explained he is trying to do upgrades. And unlike professional sites he has to do this when he has time and not at, say, 2 am on a Sunday for our convenience.

As a non-techie I sympathise. The one thing I would suggest is that it might be better to take the site completely down for (say) an entire week-end, and fix this stuff. Rather than leave it technically available but in practice borderline unusable. Personally I do not mind finding other things to do if TLF is down. But thinking it is up when it really is not, is harder to deal with.

I'm sure the bloke is doing the best he can. The site is free. Please bear with. C.

Indeed, but he shouldn't have to faff with it in the first place, the service provider should be fixing the problem ... mind you, that's TSOHOST and I took my sites off of them a few years ago in disgust at their level of so called support. Insert a few more characters in the first half of their name to know what I call them!

I did exactly the same and moved all my sites to https://www.nethosted.co.uk/ , where the technical support (on the very rare occasions I need it) is blisteringly good.

Thanks for the link I will take a look at them.
Just to mentioned the software needs upgrading regardless of host and to the point that a new supplier won't take us at the level is at (unsupported versions)
Moving host is quiet more outage and pain. But definitely a route we may have to take .

Please bare with us.

Ah… I think Tsohost used to have a fairly good reputation, but recent articles on The Register seem to be suggesting that they sadly have been losing that of late, possibly as a result of having been swallowed up by a bigger company (which itself seems to have a bit of a pile high, provide minimal competent techies/support reputation).

I (and many others) have always found Mythic Beasts to be very competent, and also good value.

I think that for web hosting there tends to be a sweet point in the middle: not so small that they can't cope with growth, not so big that they stop caring about service and only think about the money. A company that genuinely believes in providing a good service, and that ensures its technical competence keeps scale as it grows in a sustainable way, is what you want.
