On my usual IP address the site puts up a message saying I have been banned for 24 hours based on my IP address. Using VPN the site seems to work fine.

Yes, I get exactly the same if I fire up Opera and use their built in (and free) VPN choosing "Asia" as the location. If I choose "Americas" instead I also get the same except that the banned-until time is 5:42 pm. Choosing "Europe" as the location lets me through, as does just turning off their VPN.

I was getting the banned message from Belgium yesterday, but seems ok now.

Dredd was generally harsh but fair; it's Death you need to worry about

My ban seems to have been lifted now -- whether it's the expiry of the 24 hours or another reason I don't know. My VPN terminated in the USA and enabled me to use TLF when I was "banned".

Not sure everyone here will be pleased to see me back

And I'm back from Siberia now.

I wonder if the internet is slowly breaking under the strain now? I've recently had a couple of years' nightmare dealing with Cloudflare blocking me on a site I use regularly. Then there's the proliferation of paywalls, and even twitter only permits free speech to its signed up members.

I had this too yesterday (24-hour ban based on IP address), but I was in Berlin at the time so assumed it was some temporary confusion.

Sorry to be late, but I just found this thread.

I had the same problem until this morning, same message etc. When it started a few days ago, I thought it was because of something I'd posted, but I couldn't think of what it could be.

Ironically, I was only able to use TLF with a VPN!

Nope, not "foreignland". I am now getting "banned" using Firefox and my un-VPN'd Talktalk IP, which all the geolocators (correctly) show as being in London.

However I find that I can now get to TLF (and post this) using Opera with its built in VPN turned on and set to be in the "Americas"! ("Asia" and "Europe" still get me banned, as does turning off the VPN).

If I have to jump through such hoops to access TLF, then as far as I'm concerned the site is broken.

“based on your ip address”… so I change my ip address & am still banned.

odd thing though, there are NO “new posts” - list empty.

Yeah, and I just tried the Windscribe VPNs and managed to connect through Atlanta, Vancouver, Istanbul and Bucharest -- but not through Windscribe's two (free) London VPNs. Not exactly brilliant for a UK site (with no malice to anyone from the cities listed...)

Bottom line: it's capricious, and I predict you everyone will find that "A ban has been issued on your IP address" sooner or later, as things stand.
