Re: Premium Bonds
A very large number of winners from Hampshire and Isle of Wight in today's big prize winners. Ernie must be on holiday there.

I'm intrigued: where do you get your geographic distribution information from. The only info I can see is:

Re: Premium Bonds
Hampshire & Isle of Wight = 12
But beaten by Essex = 13
Closely followed by Surrey & Inner London = 10 each.

Yes, Essex always seems to loom large but I hadn't noticed Hants. and IoW cropping up so frequently before. Needless to say, Bucks (where I live) rarely wins the biggies, esp. those with £50k holdings. However, we will probably find out how little we have won tomorrow. Good luck to all, especially me! I need some compensation for my huge loss of income and capital value on the stock exchange.

Re: Premium Bonds
I guess there is a higher proportion of rich people with maximum holdings living in Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and Essex/London/Surrey for that matter than other parts of the country
Fingers crossed for East Sussex.

Thank you. I'd not seen that before. Evidently the media get more info than NS&I publish for in the media section on their website.
It would be interesting to see a geographic distribution of holders, and/or number of bonds held by region/county, but I guess we'll probably never know that

Re: Premium Bonds
I noticed a few of the £5000 winners have only recently purchased their bonds. Nothing for me this month but I have topped up to the maximum holding in the hope my luck will change.

Re: Premium Bonds
Yes, some people have a theory that one should cash in and reinvest one's bonds from time to time. Not a single prize this month so maybe I should do that.

Re: Premium Bonds
Would they be the people who want you out of the running for a month or so to give them a better chance?

Re: Premium Bonds
As Essex has more winners than anywhere else....perhaps the way to win more is to move to Essex ?

Re: Premium Bonds
the barns:
And I expect you did all the work. There's no justice in this world. Of course, if you had won as well, that would have tended to prove the theory about new holders winning but as it is, it is only 3/4 proven. Bad luck for you but a pretty good start for the family, nonetheless.

Re: Premium Bonds
Bouleversee,
I had a half holding in the previous month’s draw from monies newly invested in the month prior to that...and won £75 in my first month’s participation. Then I topped up mine and invested for the others. So there may yet be something in your theory !
Mrs thebarns would be very much at pains to describe the invested monies as a team effort for her many years of having to put up with me !
Wishing you and me luck for next month !

Re: Premium Bonds
Indeed. I might well withdraw mine as soon as the monthly draw has taken place and reinvest it, just to prove whether the theory is correct or not , though no doubt I would be the exception to the rule, knowing my luck. I might even put the money in NS&I bonds for a while. Unless it's changed recently, I think one can earn 1.15%, potentially taxable but I doubt it would be in my case in view of the small amount I have on deposit a.t.m. and the negligible interest paid.

Don't forget:
In most cases, you’ll need to hold them for a whole month before they’re eligible for the
prize draw. For example, if you buy Premium Bonds any time in November, they’ll be in
the draw in January

The theory itself is invalid.

Feel free to try it, as someone noted it will give the rest of us a better chance while your money's out of the running.
Any sensible person can see the theory's nonsense, unless you believe any of the absurd conspiracy theories that it's not random (in which case why on earth are you here?).
I upped my personal stake this month from £13,000 to £36,500 at the end of June, so this month is the first draw for the new money. I won precisely nothing.
Scott.
