Way back in the 1950s when premium bonds were introduced, my parents bought me 2 bonds, and theyve been sitting around pretty much forgotten about ever since. Some years ago I bought a full 50k holding.
I got a letter from NS&I a few weeks ago to highlight the fact that I was £2 over the limit and had two accounts, so they would credit my bank account with the excess and leave me with the 50k in one account. Which they have now done.

I'm amazed they noticed.

NS&I rescinds Premium Bonds prizes over decades-old technicality
Savers have unwittingly broken NS&I rules
Thousands of National Savings & Investments customers could have prizes retroactively cancelled .....

As a matter of interest, I wonder if it's possible to buy, for example £99 worth to keep things tidy? I know there is a minimum investment amount, but does that also mean purchases have to be multiples of this minimum?

You can only buy in multiples of IIRC £25. Otherwise I would have just topped up to £50k

You can cash in any amount though AFAIK. So you could get rid of the odd numbers and then top up as necessary.

Scott.

My wife had £3 worth from childhood. When we increased her holding to the maximum, the final payment ended in £..997. Paid online by Debit Card. I think it may have come up with the amount to pay by itself.

I'm guessing you managed to link your old holdings when you opened an online account? Sadly it wouldn't let me, so I ended up with 2 seperate bondholder numbers, one of which they cancelled.

Like you I was given a few premium bonds as a kid. Cannot recall how many but less than ten - £1 was a lot of money back then. I had two £25 prizes back then, which was exciting as a child.

I have had no contact with the Premium Bond people for about 35 years, during which time I have moved house a few times. So I guess I may have won the odd prize since then but they would not have been able to notify me.

One day I will check up with them. Or I guess I could just invest £50,000 in bonds and then they will notify me!

Do you get a taunting drum roll if you've won nothing?

Oooh!
If you haven't watched it you're in for a treat!

It basically plays out various nightmares that are really easily extrapolated from current technology https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/

Your post just rang a bell in its direction
EDIT:..but it is dark! Great, sometimes funny, but dark as... ,!
