"But uncovered archive figures have revealed Britain’s luckiest ever Premium Bonds winner defied odds of three billion to one to win the top £1m prize more than 45 years after opening an account with just £17.

The unnamed winner, from Newham in east London, took home the seven-figure jackpot in 2004, setting the record for winning the top payout with the smallest ever holding, figures obtained by this newspaper have shown"

I used to have a maximum holding and my wife still does, but the yield is so poor nowadays....

My stake is now limited to the five bonds my mother bought me in 1953. Fingers crossed.

Are they in fact the same bonds? I only ask because I thought that when you did a redemption they sold the oldest bonds, which would mean your remaining five bonds would be part of your last purchase, not the original holding :(
