Or maybe buy a large five-figure sums worth like someone I know who did about 10 years ago as an inflation hedge! Might be worth six-figures now depending how many he has used or sold.

Considering that the price of a second class stamp is only going up by only 1p to 66p, who on earth is going to use first class stamps? I rarely use stamps anyway. Royal Mail is said to be considering dropping its Saturday postal deliveries and they seem to be going the same way as bank branches and for the same reason. We are simply not using them.

Since this is LBYM, I will buy a token book of First Class and a supply of Second for Christmas cards and the rest of the year.

If you do use a fair amount of stamps, the Royal Mail online shop is useful. Free delivery if the order is large enough and they usually deliver the day after ordering. Saves queuing at the PO to buy them.

Careful where and how you keep them. Stamps could go astray, or succumb to traces of moisture in the air, before you get to use them!

I only ever buy one stamp, for the task at hand. Happily a rare event in an era of electronic communication.

I was thining to buy some before the price rise.

Why is the Post Office (or Royal Mail) the only organisation that doesn't give a discount for quantity?

Ironically, I bought 2 books of second class stamps a couple of days ago (£15.60). I managed to get a second mortgage on the way there, to cover the cost.

The person involved was quite well known in his field, of which I was a part. I won't say too much, as there is no need to provide anything that might identify him.

His circle was sufficiently large such that anyone (and anyone who was a friend of anyone) could ask him if he had "any to sell" at any point, and Christmas was a typically busy period.

Stamps are legal tender as well, but I really don't have sufficient information to answer how well that "trade" went, or how it was exited, if at all. (And I am no longer in "that circle").

It certainly worked though from what I know of the motivation, and the alternative inflation hedging strategies available at that time.
