The problem with "best before" dates is that it extends "nanny statism", encourages lack of thinking, and causes a lot of unnecessary food waste..


Notwithstanding that BBE dates are a whim of the packager etc. and not necessarily reflective of anything definitive.

Ask any bottle shop/bar wrt BBEs on bottled/canned beer as an example (amongst many)

I thnk the reality is less exciting. Instead of remving the date entirely, they are going to change the small print from "use by" to "best before".
