Tesco Clubcard prices

#556509

Postby robbelg » December 21st, 2022, 11:30 am

I'm sure most people here are aware of this scheme, but if you are not, Tesco has special prices for Clubcard members on top of the points scheme, membership is free so well worth it even if you rarely shop there.
The reduction is usually 5 or 10 percent but yesterday I bought a leg of lamb and the reduction was 50% from £14/kilo to £7/Kilo !!

Rob - no connection except a regular shopper

If you repeatedly shop at a number of stores for the same items, you get to know the "normal" prices. The "special" Clubcard price can sometimes be the normal price elsewhere, so the discount is an illusion.

Neverthekess It's a worthwhile scheme with the advantage over Nectar that there are two or three times multipliers available for spending the resulting reward points.

Worth checking this website first though to see whether the Clubcard offer is a real deal or a faked ‘marked up and discounted down’, which most are.

Although you have to be careful about what you exchange the points for as many of the companies you can exchange points for vouchers, particularly restaurants, offer almost as good a deal with 50% off or BOGOF which you can’t use with a Clubcard voucher.

Oh dear - I drive past Sainsburys and ASDA if I go to Morissons, which is pretty near to Tesco and Aldi which I'll also pass on the way to the pet store.

I can see shopping becoming a lot more complicated tomorrow, good job MrsF loves her spreadsheets :)

Tesco are downgrading the Clubcard rewards.

Previously you mostly got a 3 to 1 exchange rate for Clubcard points. This is being reduced to 2.

From an email they've sent

Here's how our Clubcard Reward Partner scheme is changing
From 14 June**, when you exchange your Clubcard vouchers for a Reward Partner code, they’ll be worth up to 2x as much, not up to 3x the value, as they are now.

I suppose 2 to 1 is still better than Nectar where anything other than 1 to 1 is extremely rare.

Sounds like I'll need to get my railcard somewhat earlier than I had intended. Fortunately I believe the 'Reward Partner voucher code' you get is valid for 6 months, so I can get that before June 14th, but actually purchase the card somewhat later.

Shop somewhere that has two tier pricing depending on whether you want to give them data about which bog roll you buy?
No ta.
I will stick to Aldi. Much cheaper.

.

An example seen today:
Loyd Grossman sauces (various) 350g

Tesco £3 each
Tesco clubcard deal 3 for 2: £2 each

Sainsburys or Asda £1.75 a jar.

Well you need to keep your wits about you, but Sainsburys do quote the "from" price as £3.00 same as Tesco.

Scott.

How does that compare with Aldi and Lidl?

No idea, I don't shop there
The Tesco I go to is a superstore, so it has a wide range of pretty much everything

From the email I received from Tesco about this

To give you extra time to decide when to use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers with Reward Partners, we’re extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes ordered from 17 March until 13 June so that they’re valid for 12 months†, rather than the usual 6 months.

So, as long as you order the Reward Partner code by the 13th June 2023, you will be able to buy your Railcard later on... up to June 2024!

Thanks for that info, though 6 months would have been sufficient for me.

Went to local corner shop on Sunday to get the papers - and impulse bought a box of Cadburys Chocolate Fingers which cost £1.49.

OH did the weekly shop at Tesco on Monday and for some reason bought a box of Cadbury's Chocolate Fingers.

Noticed when I was helping unpack the shopping bags so thought I'd check the till receipt to see how much cheaper they were. Amazed that they cost £1.70. Checked both boxes and they are the same size and the same weight.

Moral, I guess, is that supermarkets are not always cheaper.

I can only see one box size at Tesco, and currently £1.70 is the price without a Clubcard. It's £1.25 with one.

Ah - forgot to look further down the till receipt to see what discounts had been applied.
Both boxes 114gms - seems to only last a couple of days nowadays.

I went into Tesco today (because it is next to the dentist). Bought 1 Kg value porridge @ £0.70. 4 x tins black eye beans @ 4 x £0.54. 900g frozen spinach @ £1.60. None of that Clubcard nonsense for me. If it is a mark up to mark down, I do not touch it. I am passing Lidl tomorrow, so I will pop in.

I've decided life's too short to buy the basic "value" food on offer - specifically porridge oats. There's a world of difference between Flahavan's and the the supermarket own brands, both in flavour in texture. I'll compare prices between supermarkets for branded goods I like, but that's as far as it goes.

Completely agree, since we retired, we upgraded our groceries to only buy organic veg/fruit and for the wife organic porridge oats.

The difference in flavour and quality is worth it.
