Re: 1st April new energy tariffs
It's the standing charge that grates. They increased it to cover off losses from taking on ge accounts ( customers) of companies that had failed and were in debt. At what point will this debt be recovered and the SC revert downwards?
Breath not being held!

Agreed. It's robs those who are being super frugal who see their sacrifice to use minimal energy being penalised nevertheless.

Yes.
Change to Octopus onto their equivalent Ofgem capped tariff and then join the six month queue to get onto their Tracker tariff that is currently charging around 20p/kWh for electricity and 5p/kWh for gas (with standing charges of around 37p & 27p).

The SC also covers lots of other things, like subsidies to solar power etc. I think the intention is to move some of these costs on to the gas sc from the elec sc. Gas is 'bad', you see, and elec is 'good'

Doubt it is the intention as the reason they are on electricity and not gas is virtually everyone pays for electricity but a significant proportion don’t pay for gas.
Anyway, all these things should just be on general taxation and nothing to do with fuel bills at all.

Isn't that a rather meaningless game, given the huge (and unintuitive) regional variations within Blighty?

Meaningless - cheaper prices rather than the Ofgem mandated high prices? I don't think so.
As for the regional variations for the standing charge being unintuitive, on the contrary, they appear logical.
