Co-Op Pricing of Multiples

Often there is a discount for purchase of multiple items, but in the Co-Op (in Devon at any rate), you get charged more per unit if you buy three bottles of certain beers e.g. £1.80 each or 3 for £6. It's been going on for months. When we asked about it, staff said 'Oh yeah, head office know about it'.

It must be part of their drive to get people to drink less :D

Do they, for some reason, think their customers can't cope with multiplication or division?

Morrisons

70cl Gordons Gin £15 (= £21.43 per litre)
1l bottle Gordons Gin £24

70cl three barrels brandy £15 (= £21.43 per litre)
1l bottle three barrels brandy £26
doolally (not as doolally as Morrisons)
