A view of dividends for 2022 from the big FTSE100 companies. A World away from the nastiness of 2020 ;)

Comment...look at the cover on the dividend of BP & SHEL.

There is another table in the article which is worth studying ( same source as above).

The dividend decline for Admiral was the unexpected one for me. I believe it (£119m reduction) is equivalent to a dividend reduction of 39p per share. Perhaps this will translate to a smaller (not so) Special? I wonder what the reasoning for the ADM forecast might be, the AJ Bell didn't discuss?

There doesn't seem to be any logic to that. The first half showed increases with the figure (161p) 2.9% higher than the whole of 2020 (156.5p). They regularly pay special dividends to pass on surplus cash, and they cannot reduce the figure for 2021. Presumably they are looking at a massive fall in special dividends for 2022.

I always regard broker's dividend forecasts with scepticism.

But the concensus forecast is usually more reliable, and that seems to be for an increase, so maybe A JBell is just an outlier.

They may be the highest dividend payers (by amount) but they are not necessarily the highest yielders. Astrazeneca, Glencore and possibly HSBC would not justify a place in a new HYP today. Also BHP which I think is leaving the FTSE and GSK which is carving itself up soon. That really only leaves RIO, Shell, BP and BAT as potential high yield candidates for someone starting today.

I will be surprised if Admiral actually cuts its payout. It said that it would be paying the second tranche of its 'extra' special this year and I am not sure how any external source would be able to factor in a reduction in its ordinary special since these depend on the releases of reserves from earlier underwriting years.

There is no reason why HYPers can't invest in BHP. The shares will remain UK listed and it remains (very ) high yield.

On BHP Group, I put this up on Company News this afternoon. It's a notification I received today in my account held with Halifax;

Important Information & Other Key Dates:

On 2nd December 2021, following a review of its dual-listed company structure, BHP Group Plc announced its intentions to unify its corporate structure under its existing Australian parent company, BHP Group Limited.

The Acquisition, which will be conducted by way of a Scheme of Arrangement, received shareholder approval at a General Meeting and Court approval at a Court Meeting both held on 20th January 2022. The Scheme will then be subject to Court sanctioning at a Court Hearing to be held on 25th January 2022.

Subject to acquiring the necessary approval, the Scheme is expected to become effective on 28th January 2022.

Prior to the Scheme becoming effective, an application will be made to the London Stock Exchange for the cancellation of listing of the BHP Group Plc shares. Subsequently, the cancellation of admission to trading is expected to become effective on 28th January 2022 with the last day in dealings expected to be 28th January 2022.

The delisting is because BHP Group plc will no longer exist. You will have shares in BHP Group Ltd instead, which will be listed.

Having just recently, last Qtr, bought into ADM I must admit I struggled to figure out what level to use as a dividend for my spreadsheet and to give a dividend yield.

I think I ignored specials which I see as a bonus anyway and used 151.5p as a base. I suppose it will affect the sell if at x5 dividends level rise if its wrong.

If it is "cut" hopefully some of my others will rise in compensation.

I use 2 lines in my spreadsheet for ADM, setting the "special " to zero until otherwise confirmed.

I base the ordinary divi on last years quanta until updated by the company.
