Life is a rollercoaster, just gotta ride it
HYP down £57K on beginning of last week. Managed a slightly larger than usual top-up of BHP Billiton on Monday. The roller coaster may go up any time it likes now (especially as I am about to crystallise my SIPP holdings soon in attempt to fund this year's ISA allowance).
Come on Donald.

Ouch. Thanks for sharing this with us. I've held firm during this latest melee. My 'paper loss' is less than yours.
All the best.

My HYP holdings have held up a lot better than the overall market, and even the overall UK market:
and that's even accounting for some pretty chunky div payouts yesterday..

Re: Life is a rollercoaster, just gotta ride it
I update my spreadsheet weekly. Unfortunately it won't record the recent bottom as values have risen since. In fact this week might look like an ordinary down week.
I wonder if I should set an alarm for when the 3 months is up on the tariff changes as its likely to get rocky again. I wonder if we might get some relative stability till then.
Sell in May might be useful this year.
Dividends still coming in though ..... at the moment

I record dividends monthly and add to the rolling 12 month income total I use. Capital values I do make a note of in April and December and HYPTUSS does record my capital on a separate tab when I run it. Fretting over news, macro economics, politics etc is not for the HYPer, like selling and capital values shouldn't be the focus. I do make a note of forecast income as HYPTUSS spits out a number that has been a good indicator; year on year my income usually edges upwards I have no particular reason to expect anything different but there's been a lot of noise that it's all changed.

I don't know what the fuss is all about. I'm sleeping like a baby at the moment. I wake up every two hours and cry.

Re: Life is a rollercoaster, just gotta ride it
Whilst ITs, not shares, my drop was two years worth of pension withdrawal, though one year was caught back last week.(have not yet checked today)
The only plus is that as I expected to start drawing pension in 2025/2026 I had a decent amount in cash to cover my needs for 2025/2026 and with anticipated dividends 2026/2027 as well- should have had enough cash to cover until he leaves office.

If Trump trashes world trade sufficiently then there's no guarantee that it ever will go back to "normal" when he leaves.

Indeed. Trump has already proved once and for all that the proud US Constitution is not strong enough to keep a malicious chancer like him out of power.
That such a person can sideline the parliamentary process, simply by declaring that a spurious state of war exists in the country (something to do with fentanyl, if I remember rightly?) and by then ruling by decree/executive order.
That he can silence the free speech of those who legitimately disagree with him. That he can buy the judicial system. That he can (probably) make himself president for an unconstitutional third term, simply by declaring that the threat against America is still there.
And, it seems, that he can alter the logic of the international money markets simply through the mere power of wishful thinking. To the point that Trump has (reputedly!) discussed shafting foreign treasury bond holders, by converting their holdings into perpetual war bonds where the capital will never need to be repaid.

Some of this frightening stuff won't ever happen. But some of it already has.
