nb, There is mention in the item of this;

Aviva expects to use the increased capital and cash to support its previously communicated capital framework of debt reduction, investment for long-term growth and return of excess capital to shareholders. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory and anti-trust approvals, and is expected to complete within 12 months.

So there might be a special dividend forthcoming?

There might be, yes. Or there might be share buybacks forthcoming, or various other, less common forms of excess capital return. Or there might be a change of mind...

Very much a "don't count your chickens" situation!

You're obviously correct Gengulphus. I agree, but I didn't want to over think the matter. I realised that holders of AV., using their own common sense, would've been aware of the alternatives anyway.

"Special dividend "......Maybe that will make up for the reduction in dividend ? I personally think investors have been "stiffed".

Q: Did free cash flow cover dividend.? - Yes. ( note especially the final FCF value versus divi).

Solvency ratio ...pretty darn good. Profits (IFRS) up, debt down. Surely the divi could have been held?
