OK, not the highest yield out there on offer from DGE, but I still hold them in my HYP, as I have done so for years, and I think other HYPers do too, so this item may be of interest here.

As you say Ian, not the highest yielder, in fact rarely seen above the FTSE100 average, divdata shows us 20 years of inflation beating dividend increases the investor relation page gives an extra couple of years https://www.diageo.com/en/investors/sha ... formation/ I picked up some yielding about 4% about a decade back. Not particularly high yielding at the time but probably about as high as historically seen, I've never bought more as the yield has not been high enough, or rather there have been higher options.

Like you, a bought some a long time ago - end of 2009 - but I missed the peak yield and they've been yielding less as time goes on. Not much activity since and I'm just happy with the dividends rolling in, though I trimmed once as they became too large as a fraction of the whole HYP.

Ditto from me too. I'm happy to hold them in my HYP, and just let them be. Since that buy years ago, I haven't topped up my DGE holdings since. I sometimes wish all my HYP shares were steady eddies like DGE have proved itself to be though. ;)

Yes, it's been a good investment: 14% pa total return since 2009 with my dividends increasing by 1.9 times. What's not to like? Well, the low yield: in truth I do not have enough capital to produce a living income at 2.xx% income. Luckily, the yield was much higher at initial purchase.

We all seem to have been of a similar mind. My one and only purchase of Diageo was on 6th May 2009 at 842p, and the yield from the next two dividends was 4.37%. Never trimmed or topped up, and the IRR is 15.6%.

Those first two dividends were 22.2p and 14.6p, 36.8p in all. The latest two are 27.96p and 44.59p, 72.55p in total. Almost doubled in 12 years.
