Darka's 2017 Portfolio Update
A quick update as it's the last trading day of the year and my Imperial Brands (IMB) dividend has just arrived.
Notes
1) I don't unitise.
2) Still building (for the next 4 years or so, saving around 52% of joint income (NET) into the HYP).
3) All dividends are reinvested, no income is taken out from the HYP.
4) Retirement Income will be about 80% from HYP and 20% from a DB pension my wife has + eventually (maybe) State Pension.
Current Portfolio (22 Holdings in 15 Sectors)
Performance (Compared to 2016)
Income
Dividends received: +22.1%
Yield on end of year valuation: 4.8%
Forecast yield for next year 5.2%
Valuation
HYP Portfolio Value: +14.2%
Made up of:
Cash Paid In: 6.2%
Dividends Received: 4.9%
Capital Gains: 3.1%
Dividend Income Compared to forecast at end of last year: +7.2%
Charges / Trades
Sold (Carillion, Centrica, Cobham) = Seem to be a pattern there with the naming....
Charges (as % of Portfolio Value)
Trading Commission: 0.13%
Stamp Duty: 0.09%
Account Fees: 0.07%
Total 0.29%
Charges (as % of Dividend Income)
Total 6.29%
2018 Goals
1) Massively reduce charges as a % of dividend income.
2) Trade less and pay as little attention to the News as possible.
3) Increase Portfolio Value by Dec 2018: +12%
4) Increase Dividend Income by Dec 2018: +15%
5) Increase diversification if something I want to buy is at a good price/yield.
Items (3) and (4) will be due to New Money and Re-Invested Dividends + any increases from the companies I hold.
I've probably made some mistakes in the above, but that's it for this year, have a great New Year everyone and I hope you all achieve your goals.
regards,
Darka

I received my Imps payout today and will be publishing tomorrow! Is including Cash Added to your Annual Return not cheating a wee-bit?
My numbers will be in the Portfolio Management & Review section........

I don't think it's cheating, it may distort things compared to unitising the portfolio, but I intend to keep adding cash to it every year, using salary for now and safety margin once I'm retired.
It's just a different way of looking at things, and I'm being transparent to how I measure things

Thanks Arb, may look at unitising in 2018 to give me a little project... maybe - but definitely not historically as I'm not that much of a masochist

It would be if Darka had given an Annual Return figure rather than a HYP Portfolio Value percentage increase - but as it is, it's merely an example of why the two shouldn't be confused with each other...
