Sounds like sci-fi, but some chaps in New Zealand who go by the name of Emrod, are trying to make it happen

I doubt that getting in the path between transmitter and reciever would be good for your health! I have visions of birds arriving ready cooked on the ground!

From the first article: "...the power here is beamed directly between specific points, with no radiation around the beam, and a "low power laser safety curtain" immediately shuts down power transmission before any object, like a bird, drone, power thief or helicopter, can touch the main beam. "
