Guarantee - Water Filter

In March 2019 we had an expensive Aquabion water filter fitted to reduce limescale. It should have worked for approx 7 years. We noticed it being less effective towards the end of last year and we have gone back to using a wire mesh scale collector in the kettle. I would say that the Aquabion filter is no longer working at this point.

As it was noticeably improving things while it worked, I looked at replacing it with a new cartridge. Reading about the product, however, and corresponding with the manufacturer's agent in the UK, it has become clear that the filter was installed incorrectly. It is clearly recommended not to install it next to a 90 degree angle in the pipework, that there should be a straight stretch of pipe upstream and downstream. It was installed next to a 90 degree angle. The company also strongly suggested - looking at pictures I sent - that the wrong size unit had been used. They recommend fitting Aquabion to the narrower supply pipe rather than the wider diameter pipe to which it was fitted. This latter recommendation is more difficult as there is only a short section of the narrower pipe before it is joined to a larger diameter pipe.

The question is whether to go back to the installers - who we have a bad relationship with - having sued them previously regarding a different but related issue. Perhaps we just have to write it off and go with a different plumber. Any views please?

What is it... chunk of zinc in stainless mesh in a brass casing... simple DIY job.... or a different plumber... never go back.
