Top tip for macerating is to wrap the bottle in a towel, pop it in a covered box and place it in the boot of the car for however long. It gets jiggled every time you drive. I was told this when making limoncello.

Currently enjoying Tesco’s Jam Shed Chardonnay. “Rich, toasty & buttery” - yes it is. On the sweet side, but at £6 a bottle, it’s a decent drink.

£8 per bottle at Sainsbury!

Horrible stuff. Far too sweet for my taste buds and I've got a sweet tooth.

I haven't got a sweet tooth at all, so you can imagine my thoughts about my own tasting session.

My latest Australian Shiraz fave is by somebody called Andrew Peace, and his Masterpeace (modest, huh?) is worth a try for the paltry money that they're asking. (Around £6.50 from Tesco, Vivino and a few wine clubs.)

Quite a bit drier, oaky but not too much, and very warming because the 2023 is a muscular 13.5%, but it still goes down very nicely. Leaves Chilean mainstream for dead, IMHO. If this wine was French they'd probably be wanting twelve quid for it. Give it a go?

Sweet and flaccid. I would avoid it.

I'd avoid anything costing £6.50.

Mind you, I'm currently guzzling a budget red from Austria which was (IIRC) seven quid in Waitrose Newbury and is surprisingly ok, if a bit short on finish.

"Neusiedlersee DAC Zweigelt quality red wine of Austria Burgenland", according to the label on the back of the bottle. 13%. I'd certainly buy it again, unlike most seven quid wines I've wasted my money on from time to time.

Another suggestion is Les Jamelles Viognier from Co-op, currently eight quid but has been as much as a tenner in the past. Pleasingly dry and a bit like a reasonable Muscadet.

You've got a small range then. By law a 13% wine can't be sold for less than £6.34 in Scotland.

No, they let the retailers keep the extra.

Oddly enough the boss loves the white Jam Shed wine - it's one of her favourites.
When I used to drink I preferred red over white.
I'm certainly no wine connoisseur - I'm perfectly happy with the mild plastic cheddar cheese from Sainsburys. ;)
The boss says I don't have a sensitive palate - I just love clear mints - they last longer.
