Not seeking a lengthy discussion and wasn't sure where to post but someone may have a link to the waybackmachine where the old TMF UK posting guidelines or similar may have contained something along the lines of:
Don't assume readers can see the 'glint in your eyes' when posting and don't assume smileys [the old sort] can convey the glint as they can be misconstrued.
Maybe the original was penned by 'the beard' as, from memory, it had his style.

You could always start at https://web.archive.org/web/20160216183949/http://www.fool.co.uk/help/community/discussion-boards-help/.
But actually, following the posting guidelines link on that page and clicking on a bit, I've found that they're still directly online: https://www.fool.co.uk/help/community/posting-guidelines/
(I haven't looked through either link above enough to spot any glints in eyes....)

Perfect, thank you, I may have been misremembering or GrOw (sp?) penned a different version elsewhere but this will do for me:
Don’t use sarcasm. Posts are just words, and there are no non-verbal clues, such as tone of voice, facial expression or body language, to indicate that you are not being completely serious. (‘Smilies‘ only go some way to modifying the impact of text, and can be used sarcastically themselves.)

11. A Discussion Board Is Not A Pub
https://www.fool.co.uk/help/community/posting-guidelines/a-discussion-board-is-not-actually-a-pub/
"When you are sarcastic in the pub your friends can see the twinkle in your eye, and the smirk on your face, and you may even have just bought them a drink."

Thanks. I hadn’t bothered reading the entirety the other day but twinkle for glint it is. Not sure about smirks though.
