Can someone help me to help my Dad?

Hi

Can I mod or admin, please authorise my dad's account. He is called "Duckmill".

He is somewhat IT-literacy challenged, and has been reserved about posting. We (me and Dad) are currently on the phone, and I'm trying to help him use PMs.

But of course he's not authorised yet.... due to lack of activity. We are now desperately (it's painful) using "Testing 123" to notch up some activity.

But he's still unauthed.

Can someone pls push this through to help my Dad?

thanks Matt

Hi Clariman,

Yes, he did. We've been posting on viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23908 to try to clock up some activity. Thanks for TXTing Stooz.

If he has been posting, his userid has been activated. There is a minimum number of posts before being able to do some stuff.

Thanks Clariman,

I just wanted to take him through the basics, with just me and him sending a few PMs. But was surprised that he needed a certain activity count before he could reply to my PMs or send some to me himself.

So will his usage of the "Testing 123..." board register on the activity scales? Even though it's only a testing board?

The problem is that despite him having PCs, laptops for well over a decade, he's really backward over many computing details. On the phone today, I had to explain concepts like "Refreshing the current page", and URLs.

I know that he really wants to participate, I think he wants to reply to either the homeplugs or the earbuds thread, but it was very hard to understand which one on the phone with him today, since he's rather hard of hearing too, so a lot of shouting is entailed.

But thanks for your help. I imagine he'll get there in the end.

Matt

If it helps his profile shows him as having made one post so far.

I think you need either 5 or 10 posts to be able to PM

As far as I am aware they count as posts (based on other tests we’ve done) notwithstanding they are subsequently (soft?) deleted.

As it appears not, do you live close enough to visit him, log in using his account and just bang out some replies in this thread to your own posts to gwt 'his' post count up?

Hopefully Admin would be tolerant of such monstrous abuse!

Yes, well fortunately we are pretty close (30 miles), so yes that's doable.

Over the weekend I suggested to him to write a short introductory post on the BB to see if that can help him get started.

thanks Matt
